Situation
The US Department of Energy (DOE) initiated a program to promote Renewable Energy awareness to enhance energy security, economic vitality, and environmental quality in the US. Texas Power was tasked with creating and deploying a virtual instructor-led training (vILT) course for new homeowners and interested parties in Texas.
Task
The task at hand is to develop a comprehensive training program that not only communicates technical procedural updates effectively but also ensures uniform understanding among a dispersed audience. This involves consolidating information from rough drafts into a structured course accessible through the Learning Management System (LMS) hub.
Action
Initial Planning and Research: Met with local and DOE points of contact to gather requirements and specifications. Reviewed and updated modern statistics and information from a previously offered DOE instructor-led training (ILT) module.
Content Development: Determined that the foundation of the former module was sound, but most areas needed revision.Decided to continue using Adobe Captivate, revamp typeface parity, and update existing widgets and visuals with the latest technology.
Writing and Visuals: Updated technical details, added global statistics, and ensured content accuracy. Created and modified visual art using a mix of clipart and Stable Diffusion for accurate AI renditions.
Video Creation: Drafted a video script based on the course outline and pre-existing information.Used Colossyan for AI-generated video content, adjusted voice quality, cadence, and candor. Finalized the video after trial playthroughs and adjustments, and compressed it using Camtasia.
Scenario and Quiz Design: Developed a Cost Benefits Analysis activity based on a mock energy project for participants. Created presenter-note scripts to elaborate on key points, enhancing participant understanding. Designed quizzes to recap foundational content and key takeaways.
Result
The course was well-received by participants in Texas, with positive feedback highlighting its effective presentation and the integral role of renewable resources. Approximately 71% of participants expressed a willingness to engage in renewable energy awareness, supporting the goal of fostering a greener planet for current and future generations.
