Situation

NLand Surf Ranch has a number of obligations to its new customers, the most important of which is ensuring their safety. Each and every customer, from age 14 and up, are to partake in an educational course on surfing safety prior to their park visit. The course is to serve as the foundation to their upcoming surfing experience, internal and external to NLand, preserving customer commitment and loyalty in the process.

Task

The task with this course is to manufacture an educational experience that promotes the basic understandings of safety in terms of surfing. From physical gear to environment, the course seeks to aligns form and function. Additionally, measures are to be taken to ensure both our younger and older audiences are engaged and prepared equally.

Action

Analysis: Performed a sit-down working session with NLand safety staff to identify the baseline requirements of the course. Partook in physical outing with surf instructors for hands-on development and understanding

Review: Worked with NLand safety staff to refine the information, integrate technical outlier guidelines, and develop an effective course strategy.

Content Design and Development: Employ Articulate Storyline for creation of a storyview outline of the intended course. Consider and manufacture template designs for each course section. Interpret course requirements into palpable format(s), readily available to learners of ages considered. Inception and deployment of gamification modalities within knowledge check portion of the course.

Visuals: Selected and created visual content, including images and an AI-assisted video, to supplement the course material and improve comprehension.

Result

Being a required course for all surf participants, the barometer to success was measured with regards to surfer's initial adherence to safety (eg. Using a leash prior to enter the water) as well as their post-session surveys. Results from these two observances indicated that nearly 40% of surfers felt "More Confident" in their sessions than prior to the "Surf Safe" course. Additionally, surf instructors on-scene made mention of "increased competences", noticing customers taking the first initiative on determining adequate board size and conditions.
